Interior painting
Interior painting for residential homes is the most common job local painters have, and all start with them coming to quote your project. Pricing will be based on the number of rooms or area of your unit or house. Other things that can impact your interior painting quote include the amount of preparation or prep work involved, especially if you have cracks that need filling or timber elements like window and door frames.
The first step for any interior paint job is for furniture to be moved and/or covered with drop sheets. This is followed by the prep work and two or three coats, depending on the surface.
Exterior painting
If your home is looking a little tired on the outside you might want to give it a freshen up. Most homes need a fresh coat on exterior surfaces every five or 10 years, or more often if you are near the coast.
Exterior painting is a very different job to interior projects, and painters will use different equipment and paint, including scaffolding for multi-storey homes and paint that is specially formulated for exposure to heat, UV rays and rain.
Besides the exterior walls you also need to think about the fascia, eves, gutters, as well as window and door frames.
Fence painting
If you have a timber, concrete or Colorbond steel fence, chances are it will need painting to protect it from the elements and look good. Each surface will require a dedicated paint to ensure maximum durability and a perfect finish.
Fail to maintain your fence and the timber will start to crack, the paint will peel or it will become infected with mould or mildew.
Steel fencing is more durable if treated with a primer, and should last many years before it needs repainting. Concrete or brick fencing should need repainting every five years or, more often if you are near the coast.
Timber maintenance
Local painters can also help you with any timber maintenance, as wood needs more regular attention than other surfaces. The most common problems are paint flaking or timber rotting, especially on window frames and doors, balustrades and timber fascia that are exposed to the elements outdoors.
The first step is to strip old paint, fill holes or replace rotted sections, before sanding it and applying a primer coat. They will then apply a primer and at least two coats of a dedicated timber paint.
Roof painting
Roof painting is a specialised job that requires know-how and the right equipment for working at height, so is best left to local professional painters.
Painters who do this type of work will start by visiting your property to quote the job, based on the size of your roof and its condition.
The first step is to pressure clean your roof, followed by a primer and a number of coats of a dedicated roof paint. Some of these are formulated to inhibit the growth of moss, algae, and lichen on your roof.
