What services do window repair specialists provide?

A broken window can be a problem for many reasons. Not only is a crack unsightly, but it can also mean your home is open to rain and give an easy entrance point to thieves. Windows can be broken through accidents, malicious intent or from natural damage, but no matter what the cause, hiring a window repair specialist should be top of your to-do list.

Window frame repairs

Over time, window frames can crack, become rotten or deteriorate in some other way. Depending on the damage, you may be able to repair the frame without replacing the whole window. This is the cheaper option, which is also better for the environment.

When this isn’t possible, you’ll have to replace the window frame and the pane. One important thing you’ll need to think about is materials. While you may want a frame that matches the rest of your home, sometimes an upgrade to something else can be worth it.

For example, aluminium window frames can be a cost-effective option that stand up well to the elements. Double glazing is another option that you may be tempted by, and PVC frames are a popular choice for those.

Glass repairs

Although we think of glass repair more often when it comes to cars, it can also be used on small cracks in home windows. This is a much cheaper option than replacing the entire windowpane.

Common problems like cracked or chipped glass can be repaired, as can foggy windows or warped panels.

Larger problems like holes, damaged frames or leaks will require a glass or entire window replacement.

Glass replacement

There’s a big difference between glass and window replacement. Glass replacement means taking the existing pane out of the frame and replacing it with a similar product. Window replacement means changing the frame as well.

Glass replacement would be the course of action when there is a lot of damage done to the glass. Either too much to repair, something that’s impossible to repair or something that’s cheaper to replace than fix.

A window replacement would be needed if there was damage to the frame as well. This could be due to warping, but more likely it’s either damage caused by an external force (e.g. during a storm) or if the wood has started to rot.

24/7 emergency

If you come home to a broken window, it’s understandable that you might want it replaced at a moment’s notice – no matter what the time is.

In most circumstances, emergency window repair does not involve glass straightaway. Instead, someone will come to your home to tidy up and remove the glass, measure the window and then board it up. They’ll then return to put the glass in once it’s ready.

Because of the urgent nature of these jobs, they tend to be more expensive than standard window replacements.
