  • Semi-frameless: A semi-frameless shower screen has some framed components, but these are less obtrusive than those found on framed shower screens. These can cost anywhere from $200 to $700.

Does my shower installer need to be licensed?

Whether your installer needs to be licensed depends where you live.

In NSW, shower screen enclosure installation is covered by the Minor Trade Work licence class. The Building Commission NSW describes this work as, ‘works involving new, repair or replacement work which cannot be readily ascribed to an individual specific trade area’.

In Queensland, the licence Glass, Glazing and Aluminium covers this type of work.

Your installer may also have a glaziers licence or be covered by a bathroom renovation or builders licence.

Frequently asked questions

Shower screen installers charge $45 to $65 per hour, depending on your location. A two-panel frameless shower screen could cost $195 to install, while a three panel sliding door frameless shower screen could cost $400 or more for installation.

Shower screen replacement is a fairly straightforward job for a glazier or shower installer. The first step is for the dimensions of your shower area or cubicle to be taken, so the screen can be cut to size. This could take a few weeks at most. The installer then returns with the screens cut to size and will usually have them installed in a few hours.

Shower screen installation involves removing your existing screen as well as any silicone sealer from surfaces. The new screen can then be installed with a series of brackets and/or screws into your tiled wall. New silicone is often used to seal joints and prevent leaks. Once this cures, you're good to use your new shower screen.

An experienced glazier, shower screen installer or bathroom renovator should be able to install a shower in a matter of hours. This includes the removal of your existing shower screen and fitting the replacement. It may take a little longer if you have a larger job or awkward angles.
