If you are looking for new window coverings that are stylish, practical and that will last the test of time; you’d be hard pressed to find anything better than Venetian blinds.  But what exactly is available?  Here we tell you what you can expect to see when you visit a blinds store or contact a manufacturer.

What are Venetian Blinds?

Venetian blinds are blinds that are made by joining together a number of horizontal slats on either side.  The slats within the blind are adjustable from fully opened to fully closed and anywhere in between and they are adjusted with the help of a metal or plastic wand or by automation (remote control).  Venetian blinds can be made with slats of varying widths so you can achieve the look or blind that works best with your windows.

Options in Venetian Blinds

You may think that Venetian blinds may be a bit uniform in terms of looks and appearance but the fact is that there are several different types of Venetian blinds available.  Your choices include:

  • Wooden Venetian blinds – wooden Venetian blinds are made from some sort of timber (such as pine or Western Red Cedar) and they can be left natural in appearance for a beautiful earthy natural look or they can be painted to the colour of your choice.  Wooden Venetian blinds are enduringly popular but you do have to be careful when using them in wet areas.

  • Aluminium Venetian blinds – as you would expect, these Venetian blinds are made from lightweight aluminium and they are available in a huge range of colours and widths to suit any window.  Aluminium Venetian blinds are low maintenance and will last for a long time with little care.

  • PVC Venetian blinds – PVC Venetian blinds are made from PVC which is an environmentally friendly, rigid type of plastic that is completely recyclable.  Generally, PVC Venetian blinds will have the look of timber painted white but they will not fade, warp, rot, or need repainting or refinishing like timber Venetian blinds will.  While white is the most common colour, you will find PVC Venetian blinds in other colours as well.

  • Mini Venetian blinds – these Venetian blinds are so named because the slats are significantly narrower than other types of Venetian blinds.  This means that they are more streamlined in appearance but they will also block out more light as the slats can actually fit together more tightly.  They are available in a range of colours and materials.
