Ants are an invasive pest most commonly found infesting kitchens where even the most rudimentary scraps of food can sustain a colony. The tiny black and brown ants are the most common species that cause infestations in the home, and are typically more of a nuisance than a health threat, though allergic reactions to bites are possible.

Products containing an insect growth regulator (IGR) are increasingly popular. These interrupt the life cycle of ants and are considered extremely effective though they do take some time to be effective.
