Choosing a Pest Inspection Company

Pest inspections are generally carried out by pest inspectors, who will then generate a report outlining the condition of the property and whether insects are currently present or have been in the past. The pest inspector should give you a quote before the inspection begins.

It's a good idea to shop around for a pest inspector, as costs can vary depending on the level of inspection you require. Choose a building pest inspection company in your local area, as they will be able to provide knowledge about local pests and other considerations in your area. The pest inspector should provide a pest report, detailing the location of pests, the severity of the damage and recommendations for rectifying the problem. The inspection should comply with Australian Standard 4349.3 - 1998. Check with your local authority's building surveyor to see if an updated standard is available.  

Once you move into the property, it's advisable to have a pest inspection carried out at regular intervals. Aim to have an inspection conducted annually, or every three to six months if you live in a high-risk area.

How Much Does a Pest Inspection Cost?

The cost of a pest inspection will be determined by the size of your property and based on an average hourly rate of $100 - so the larger your property the more expensive it will typically be. Some inspections will come with a structural guarantee on a report of up to 12 months, which offers greater peace of mind.
