Using Curtains as Vertical Blinds
Last Updated Sep 14, 2018 · Written by Jaclyn Fitzgerald · 2 min read
Vertical blinds are a common window covering but what if you could use curtains to improve both the look and functionality of them? Read on for more information.
Using Curtains with Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds are a very practical window covering as you can control exactly how much light enters your home. However, they are not always the most attractive covering option and they are not that great at regulating the temperature within the home, allowing too much heat to enter in summer and too much cold to enter in winter. The easiest solution to both make vertical blinds look more attractive and help with insulating your windows is to install curtains over your vertical blinds.
Installing curtains over your vertical blinds is a relatively easy undertaking and you can install any type of curtains you wish, from sheers, to full blockout, as long as you take a couple of things into consideration. The first is that the curtain rods or tracks will need to be mounted so that the curtains don't interfere with the operation of the vertical blinds. Make sure that the curtains are easy to open and don't block doorways or window openings (as this can cause curtains to get dirty very quickly as the wind blows them against flyscreens etc). An ideal solution is to install curtains on a track system that only opens in one way, so that the curtains go to one side of the window or door only, same as vertical blinds.
Using Curtains as Vertical Blinds
You could even use your curtains as vertical blinds. You need to remove any existing vertical blinds first. Using a track system, install your curtains in the space where the vertical blinds used to go. Make sure that the curtains only go to one side of the window. This will allow you to have all of the benefits of curtains – privacy, temperature control, light control, the huge range of design options, colours, and patterns etc – as well as the benefits of vertical blinds. Vertical blinds allow you to control exactly how far you want your blinds open at any one time.
